Just recently I have had to say good-bye to a very dear friend, his name was Chuck Leverich.
He will never be forgotten for what a fun person he was, and for what a big ambassador he was for the community of Baxter Springs.
I first met Chuck when he walked through the door of the newspaper, and introduced himself as the former editor of the newspaper and the person that fell into Spring River.
I soon came to realize that Chuck was much more than the guy that fell into the river. He covered a lot of events for the newspaper, wrote a lot of columns called Ramblings, and enjoyed every minute of it.
He always had a positive outlook for Baxter Springs, and believed that the positive by far outweighed the negative.
One of the things that Chuck enjoyed a lot was the Music in the Park that he had a big hand in starting.
Continuing on with this event will I'm sure make him smile down on us on Fridays in the summer.
Another event that he was very passionate in bringing back was Cowtown Days although he wasn't in good enough health to participate he enjoyed that fact that there was once again a Cowtown Days.
For those that had the privilege of meeting Chuck and for those that didn't know him the loss will be felt by all of us because there isn't a person that loved Baxter Springs more than him.
Good-bye my friend I will miss that silly bucket hat that you used to wear, but most of all I will miss you.
