St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, will be having a centennial celebration on October 25. This will commemorate the 100 years of the church building which was designed after the Holy Cross Chapel at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.

The centennial Planning Committee is seeking information on past pastors and various activities of St. Bridget’s Parish. They are also wanting to find photos of activities such as pictures of  First Communion and Confirmation classes. The photos will be copied and returned to their owners. A history book and a picture scrapbook is being written and compiled.

In 1993, the parishioners of the Sacred Heart Church in Weir, the Immaculate Conception Church in West Mineral and St. Anastasia’s Church in Cherokee became members of St. Bridget’s Parish. Then in 2003 when two priests retired, Father Chrysostom Ah Maung was appointed pastor of four parishes in Cherokee County: St. Rose of Lima in Columbus, St. Bridget’s in Scammon, St. Joseph’s in Baxter Springs and St. Patrick’s in Galena. Information and photos of the above mentioned parishes would also be welcome.
