4-H’ers from Cherokee County attended the Wichita Garden Show and participated in the horticulture and photography judging competitions. The horticulture contest consisted of identifying plants, answering questions on a written test, and judging to see which plants were better than others. The senior participants were Lucas Epler and Erin Pearson. The intermediate participants were Christina and Timothy Epler, Blake Martin, Ashlynn Mullere, Devin Pearson, Grant Simpson, and Eric and Phillip Underwood. Junior participants in the non-competition category were Preston Mullere and Austyn Simpson.
Several of the 4-H’ers also participated in the photography judging, and for some it was for the first time. The senior participant was Erin Pearson. Intermediate participants were Blake Martin, Ashlynn Mullere, Devin Pearson, Grant Simpson, and Eric and Phillip Underwood. The photography judging had the participants taking a written test, judging six categories of photos, and solving a problem.
Erin Pearson was the only one to place in the top 10 of both competitions. She received 2nd place and a medallion in photography and 9th place and a certificate in horticulture. All the 4-H’ers did an extremely good job at the show.
Cherokee County was represented by two intermediate teams in both the horticulture and photography contests. In Horticulture, Team A placed 5th and Team B placed 8th out of 13 teams. In Photography, Team A placed 26th and Team B placed 23rd.
Also attending the garden show were Mark and Betty Epler, Jeff, Betty, and Sarah Martin, CR and Sheila Mullere, Teresa Pearson, Barbara Simpson, Tracy Simpson, Judi Grant, Tara Underwood, Sarah Johnston, and Jacob and Michelle Weber.
