James and Carolyn Street were married on September 4, 1959, by Carolynís father, Rev. H.W. Horn. The couple first met when Rev. Horn began pastoring the Chetopa Assembly of God Church. The Streets were members of that Church. Carolyn was the ďpreacherís kidĒ. James was 16 and Carolyn was 14 when they started dating. They dated three years before they were married at Carolynís home.
The couple has worked side by side for the past 50 years, building a family, a farm and a strong life together. They are active members of the Neutral United Methodist Church and both work at raising cattle and doing volunteer work.
The couple have two children, Phillip and wife Patti Street, Cindy and husband Bill Garner.
Phillip and Patti have four children: Lauren and husband Jason Burkhart, Lisa and husband Chris Burkhart, Bethany and Garrett. Cindy and Bill have two children, Sarah and husband Will Maxton and Zach. James and Carolyn have three great grandchildren, Lauren and Jason are the parents of Eli (1 year).
A celebration of their 50 years together will be held on August 30 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Baxter Springs Community Building.
