Melanie Bingham is running for the office of County Attorney. She looks forward to a continued cooperation with law enforcement and the opportunity to help make Cherokee County a safer place by prosecuting criminals to the fullest extent of the law. Melanie is married to Rusty Bingham. They have three daughters, Taylor, SkyLeigh and Cassidy. She graduated from Law School with Honors from the University of Tulsa, College of Law. Bachelors Degree in Political Science / Public Administration From Missouri Southern State University, Associates Degree in Pre-Law from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, and went through the teaching program and graduate classes at Pittsburg State University. She is currently in her 13th year as a member of the Baxter Springs Board of Education, 8 years as Board Vice President, Board of Directors of the Baxter Springs Chamber of Commerce, Deacon of the First Christian Church, Owned and managed Hatbox Photography for 11 years, Member of the Cherokee County Bar Association, Kansas and American Bar Associations, Young Lawyers Division of Kansas Bar Association, Special Prosecutor for Cherokee County Attorney's Office and Counsel for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Dept. Bingham received valuable experience in the area of prosecution by serving as a Licensed Legal Intern at Crawford County Attorney’s Office. Her office is located in Baxter Springs with the law offices of JoAnna Derfelt and Candace Brewster Gayoso.
