LINDSBORG — The Smoky Valley High School defense forced Lyons into -58 rushing yards, while the offense put up 468 yards in a 50-0 home win Friday night.

Smoky Valley scored three touchdowns in the first quarter, followed by three touchdowns in the second quarter, to put this game away by halftime. With the win, the Vikings are now 4-2 heading into district play, which includes 3-3 Clay Center, 1-5 Chapman, and 1-5 Rock Creek. The top two teams from each district make the playoffs.

After Hesston held the Vikings to 104 yards rushing last week, Smoky Valley got back to doing what they do best. Running the ball. And with the depth the Vikings have in the backfield, it makes calling plays real simple.

Kyle Anderson led the team with 86 yards on only five rushing attempts, while Tim Lambert had 85 yards and two scores.

The Vikings got on the board five minutes into the contest, when Riley O’Dell scored from just outside the goal line. It took less than two minutes for the Vikings to strike again, this time quarterback Brett Heitchschmidt delivered a touchdown pass to Ross Schrag from 12-yards out. After a successful two-point conversion run by Anderson, the Vikings had a commanding 14-0 lead.

But Heitchschmidt and the offense were far from over, as the senior quarterback connected with Jacob Adams from 17-yards out, followed by a Kaj Sjogren two-point conversion run.

Heitchschmidt connected with Aach Able for his third touchdown pass of the half, this time a 61-yard bomb to make it 30-0.

O’Dell from nine yards, and Lambert from 40 yards, would both score before the half ended. Lambert scored one more touchdown in the third quarter, before the Vikings took their foot of the gas, and coasted to a 50-0 win.

The ever so efficient Heitchschmidt was a perfect 5 of 5 passing, for 109 yards and three scores. You can’t ask for better production from a quarterback in a run first offense.

Ethan Wampler and Beck Elliot spent the majority of their times in the Lyons backfield, combining for 6.5 tackles for loss, while Elliot had a sack.

The Vikings start district play as favorites next Friday, as they travel to Rock Creek.
