The Dodge City High School debate team has returned from a tournament with a second place win for the third time in four weeks.

The debate team competed at the Redskin Invitational Tournament in Liberal this past Saturday.

A dozen or so debaters brought back individual medals at the meet in the Pancake Hub.

In the open division, junior Cisco Soto recorded a near-perfect seven speaker points in his season debut with his partner Alex Rangel also taking top honors, both going 5-0 on the day.

Sophomores John Pinkerton and Jadon Nau got second place in the division finishing the meet with a 4-1 mark.

Sophomores, Aria Knedler and Daemian Serna got fourth going 4-1 with the only loss coming from Soto and Rangel.

Other pairs that medaled were Katherine Greenleaf and Maddie Kalschuer, tenth graders who were 4-1 and placed fifth, and seniors Ronaldo Lopez and Javier Loya who were 3-2 and sixth overall.

Jasmin Alvarado and Guadalupe Hipolito finished the tournament at 4-1 and placed third overall in the novice division with their only loss to the eventual champions from Garden City.

In the sweepstakes rankings, the Demons posted a 13-2 mark with one of the losses coming from another Demons team.

Garden City posted a higher mark of 14-1 while all twelve Demons earned medals and placed in the top six in their divisions.

In total, the six teams combined for 24-6 at the tourney.

Four DCHS teams also competed in the Lyons Roar Invitational Tournament in Lyons on Saturday.

All four teams combined for a 11-9 mark on the day led by Jason Armenta and Josiah Thomas, who went 4-1 and placed fourth overall among the 50 teams from 24 schools.

Josh Habiger and Mohammad Qureshi were 3-2; Roxana Arjon and Christian Garcia and novices Malicki Fregon and Hannah Pittman each ended up 2-3.

The Demon Debaters will return to action Oct. 29 when they travel to Thomas More Prep in Hays.
