Roberta ‘Robbie’ Pauline Thrower, 73, went to be with Jesus on December 1, 2016 following a long illness. Robbie was born July 30, 1943 in Henryetta, Oklahoma to Luther and Virginia (Jones) Adams. She was a lifetime resident of Baxter Springs and attended school there. Robbie was a member of Bethel Community Church where she taught Sunday school and sang on the worship team. She was also a member of the Cowtowners’s CB Club, served as a secretary for the Ladies Auxiliary and was a founding member of the V.F.W.
She loved her family unconditionally. She also loved music and especially loved “being ornery”. She was loving and kind and touched many people’s lives. Robbie’s last occupation was a grocery manager at Windsor’s Place, in the deli and bakery at Smitty’s, personal housekeeper and served as a cook at Ozark Christian College. She performed all of these jobs until an unfortunate accident in 2002 that left her disabled.
Robbie was united in marriage to Hershell R. ‘Lucky’ Thrower in Miami, Oklahoma on August 16, 1963. Lucky preceded her in death on March 15, 1983. Her hobbies throughout her life included fishing, crafting, ceramics, antiquing, and cooking.
She is survived by a son, Richard ‘Birddog’ Thrower and wife Kristi of Galena, Kan.; one daughter, Robin Gilmore and husband Kevin of Baxter Springs, Kan.; special son, Corey Moates; one grandson Kyle Thrower, three granddaughters, Kelly Leann Thrower, Jara Lee Thrower, Kayla Dawn Edmondson; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Adams, and Janet Stripling. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her brother, Luther ‘Danny’ Adams and son Randy Dee Thrower.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Bethel Community Church. Burial will follow at Lowell Cemetery in Lowell, Kan. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Pastor Mark Kerr, Pastor Tim Alsbaugh, Pastor Jeff Adams, and Corey Moates will officiate. Pallbearers are Robin Gilmore, Kevin Gilmore, Jeff Adams, Jody Adams, Riley Edmondson, and Corey Moates. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Community Church.
