GALENA - Former Cherokee County Corrections Officer Timothy Rooks has been relieved of his duties after being arrested, said Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.

Rooks was arrested on Feb. 1, when Officers with the Galena Police Department attempted to apprehend a wanted criminal. Galena Chief of Police Billy Charles said officers received information that Stephen W. Hill was staying at a residence on E 23rd street in Galena.

"Mr. Hill had a warrant out of Cherokee County for Possession of Methamphetamine, No Insurance, Driving While Suspended, and Illegal Registration," said Chief Charles.

Once officers arrived on scene and made contact with Hill, the warrant was verified and he was taken into custody.

"Officers on scene made the decision to also arrest Timothy Rooks of the residence for Obstructing apprehension or prosecution," said Chief Charles.

No other information has been released at this time.
