SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The 2017 USA Powerlifting Collegiate National Championships were held April 7 through April 9, in San Antonio, Texas. Attending the meet were teams from 38 different States representing numerous colleges and Universities across the country. Most were from Division 1, schools such as UCLA, Texas University, LSU, Florida State, University of Nebraska, and Rutgers, to name a few.
Dayton Mooney, freshman lifter representing The Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens and former Galena Bulldog, attended his first Collegiate National Championship. Mooney would break the USA Teenage Division Squat Record with a lift of 627 LBS. The meet placed and medaled 'The Nation’s Top 5 Lifters' from each body weight classification, Mooney in the (205-231 LB weight class) posted lifts of 357 LBS in the Pause Bench Press, 611 LBS in the Deadlift, and 627 LBS in the Squat combining for a total of 1,595 LBS placing him the fourth best lifter in the nation, collegiately.
Dayton will receive his Associates Degree from CCC this spring and looks to continue his education and powerlifting career at Pittsburg State University next season.
