GIRARD - Baxter Springs had to come from behind in a double header late in the innings to down Girard on the Trojans home field. The Lions were down 8-3 in the first game, and pulled put a 10-8 victory. Behind 6-4 in the nightcap they came back to win 11-6.

In the opener in the second inning Noah Wilson started being hit by pitch, and was advanced to second on Austin Williams single. The Lions took a 1-0 lead on Drake Shaw’s base hit. Baxter Springs added two more runs in the third inning on a walk by Kaid Karnes, and a single by Wilson. Both were scored on Williams second hit of the game.

Girard brought 13 batters to the plate and scored seven runs to go up 7-3 in their bottom half of the third. The Trojans had three base hits, one double, three base on balls, and two hit by pitch. Girard extended their lead 8-3 in the fourth after scoring on a walk and a single.

Baxter Springs answered back 8-4 in the fifth after Karnes belted a homerun. Girard stranded two runners after a double and a single.

In the sixth Shaw singled and moved to second when Brant Trease was HBP. Shaw and Trease advanced up one base on Dodson’s ground out. They scored on Nate Thompson’s base hit. Karnes doubled in Thompson, and Wilson singled in Karnes. The Lions and Trojans were now tied at eight. Girard left a runner on in the sixth.

Vance Asquith was inserted into the batting line-up and led off with a walk in the seventh. Shaw’s sacrifice bunt moved Asquith to second. Trease was HBP for the third time of the game. Asquith and Trease added the Lions 10th run on singles by Dotson and Thompson.

The Lions started with a 3-0 lead in the second game. Starting in the second inning, Wilson started off with a double, and Caleb Arnall walked. They were advanced to third and second on a William’s fielder’s choice. A single by Asquith plated Wilson and Arnall. A sacrifice bunt by Shaw brought in Williams. Baxter Springs went up 4-0 in the third inning after Karnes singled, and Wilson’s base hit.

Girard came back with their own big inning in the third to tie the game at four. The Trojans started with three straight base on balls, then a double, and sacrifice to centerfield. With the first two batters out in the fifth, a batter walked and moved to third on a base hit. Both runners scored on a Lion error.

Down 6-4 in the sixth the Lions stranded two runners after Dodson led off with a double, and Korben Frisbee drew a walk and both moved up on a Trojan error.

The Lions scored 6 runs in the seventh and batted 12. Another batter was HBP as Dodson led off. Dotson moved to second on Karnes’ single. Wilson rapped a double scoring Dotson and Karnes to third. Karnes came across on Arnall’s single. Preston Landis and Asquith singled. Shaw’s sacrifice bunt brought in Landis, and Asquith scored on Trease’s base hit. Dotson brought Trease across on his base hit. With Dodson in relief on the mound, the Trojans batting last went 1-2-3.
