Good Morning,

Thanks to everyone who came out for lunch the past few months, made a donation or helped with the firework funding. That fund is now at $7,000; we have ordered fireworks in that amount. The 4th of July Celebration committee has met and put together activities for the 4th beginning at 5 p.m. They could use some sponsors for the Tug of War, Frog Hopping, Turtle Races, Egg Toss and hot dog eating contest. All this involves is supping some type of prize for the winners (either company logo stuff from your business or some give $5 Columbus bucks). The Miss Columbus candidates and committee members will be helping with the games so you don't need to worry about that.

Be sure and register with Farm Bureau Insurance for the 5K Fun Run - there is also three laps around the city park for children. We could still use some help with the fun run, nothing difficult, direct the runners at corners so they don't go the wrong way. Contact Denise at Farm Bureau, if you can help.

The agriculture committee is planning on "Feeding the Farmers" Tuesday evening. Farmers Co-op will have the grill going, along with the help of some 4-H'ers and Miss Columbus candidates. They hope to be serving by 5 p.m. to all those harvest crews that come through the South elevator to dump. The truck driver is encouraged to take food back to the rest of the harvest crew. In pat years, they have served around 150 crew members. Thanks to our sponsors of American Bank, Commerce Bank, Crossland Construction Company, Davis Real Estate, Mike Carpino Ford, and Farmers Co-op.

The agriculture committee is also planning on doing a fall Ag EXPO on Sept. 28. If you are an Ag related business or depend on the agriculture base members of our community, we encourage you to sit up a booth. They will be sending out invitations to surrounding area Ag related business - equipment, feed, and more. Booth fee will be $30. Included with that fee will be two tickets for lunch and dinner. Hours will be from 10 to 6 pm at the 4-H building and fairgrounds. There will also be several workshops during the day. Reservations are now being taken for booth space.

Miss Columbus Tasting Bee is this Friday (June 16) at the community building from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The 2017 cookbooks will be available for purchase. Come enjoy lunch and sample all the goodies that have recipes in the book. If you placed a recipe in the cookbook, remember, that you must prepare the dish and have it at the community building by 10:30 a.m. The building will be open by 8 a.m., if you need to leave your dish on your way to work. To order in advance for pickup call 674-2206 or 620-210-5911.

If you can't make it Friday and want a cookbook, they are available at Farm Bureau Insurance and the Chamber office.
