BAXTER SPRINGS - Baxter Spring's first ward both gained and lost a representative on the city council at last week's meeting.
Jack Couch was formally sworn in by City Clerk Deb Weston the evening of July 11. Couch was nominated to fill the spot left vacant when Laurie Alquist stepped down earlier this year.
Shortly after Couch took his seat, Mayor Randy Trease announced that Carl Ikenberry, the other representative from Ward 1, will be resigning from his position. In his letter to the council, Ikenberry cited health issues as the reason for his decision to leave the city council.
The Baxter Springs City Council meets at 7 p.m. twice a month, the second and fourth Tuesday, at City Hall. The meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend.
