COLUMBUS - A group of concerned Columbus citizens have been working tirelessly to erect a memorial worthy of the honor local veterans deserve. Community members and businesses have a chance to help fund the project by honoring local veterans through granite pavers that will be placed around the monument.

The Columbus Community Foundation designed a plan to build a new memorial take the place of the existing "Military Wall of Honor" that has been located on the northeast corner of the square for many years. The new monument will be made of black granite and will stand in recognition and honor of all branches of the military.

The 9" x 6" pavers can be purchased for $100 until Sept. 30. After the deadline the price for the pavers will increase to $150. Granite Paver Order Forms can be picked up at the following Columbus locations: American Legion, VFW, Columbus City Hall, Columbus Telephone Company, Commerce Bank, Labette Bank, and Columbus First United Methodist Church.

The forms can also be picked up at the following locations around the county: Baxter Springs City Hall, Cherokee City Hall, Galena City Clerk's Office, Old Riverton Store, Scammon City Hall, Weir City Hall, and West Mineral City Hall.

Donations are to be made out to the Columbus Community Foundation (indicate on the memo line - 'Veteran's Memorial'). Mail to P.O.
