Frank Lee Martin, Sr. entered into heaven in the early morning of August 3rd, 2017 at the Galena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an illness. Frank was born on Christmas Day of 1936 in Galena, Kan. to Orbia and Idona Shrock Martin. Frank attended Galena schools and was a proud Bulldog all of his life. After graduating from high school in 1954 Frank attended Pittsburg State University for two years on a woodworking scholarship. If you knew Frank, you know that he was a master woodworker. The pieces of furniture he built for family members show his attention to detail and love of his craft, they will be treasured forever.
Frank proudly served in the US Air Force from August of 1956 until his honorable discharge on October 20, 1960. Frank was trained at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado in nuclear weapons mechanical assembly, reaching an E3 rank.
On January 20, 1956 Frank married his high school sweetheart, Verla "Coleen" Fanning. To their union two sons and two daughters were born. Coleen preceded Frank in death on May 18, 2002.
Frank worked in route sales for several different companies including PepsiCo, Meadow Gold and Burgraff. He served for a time as President of Joplin Bottling Co. After his retirement Frank drove activity buses for Galena Schools where he especially enjoyed taking kids to ball games.
On April 12, 2003 Frank met Carol Livingston. They were married in Riverton, Kan. on August 2nd, 2003. They enjoyed 14 years of happiness together.
As a youth Frank was baptized at the Assembly of God Church in Miami, Okla. He had attended Bethel Church in Baxter for the past 14 years, serving as a deacon and helping out in any other way he could.
Frank is survived by his wife Carol, his daughters Vickie (Dwight) Barnes of Collinsville, Okla., Linda (Randall) Dopps of KC, Mo., his sons Frank Lee, Jr (Kim) Martin of Riverton and Doug (Wendy) Martin of Galena, his step-daughter Patti (Phil) Street of Columbus, step-sons Richard Robinson of Moore, Okla. and Ray Robinson of OKC, Okla. His grandchildren include Chasidy (Mark) Coulter, Sundae (Glen) Smith, Kammi (Kyle) Thompson, Kasey (Caleb) Turner, LaPasha (Jerry) Pykiet, Devin (Brian) Lewis, Amber (Tracy) Thomas, Jacoby (Laci) Martin and Kansas Martin. Step-grandchildren Lauren (Jason) Burkhart, Lisa (Chris) Burkhart, Bethany Street, Garrett (Autumn) Street, Traci Robinson and Robert Robinson. Great-grandchildren Lane, Chancy, Talon, Ty, Jaylyn, Savory, Bradley, Evan, Zane, Kannon, Kinsley, Tanner, Hartleigh (due in November), Cora, Anna, Eli, Alex, Maya, Conner, Audrey and Benjamin. Great-great grandchildren Jaxon and Savanna.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and brothers Sam and Jerry "JP" Martin.
A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Bethel Church, with the funeral service provided by Rev. Mark Kerr following at 2 p.m. The family suggests a gift made in Frank's honor be made to the Bethel Church in lieu of flowers. Pall bearers will be Jacoby Martin, Lane Coulter, Talon Coulter, Ty Smith, Mark Coulter, Glen Smith, Caleb Turner and Kyle Thompson. Honorary pallbearers are Joe King, Pat Collins, Garrett Street, Evan Turner, Zane Turner, Kannon Thompson, Bud Shackelford, Clyde Stansberry, Paul Howie, and Dewey Johnson. Frank will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Galena, with the Miami, Okla. American Legion conducting military rites.
