Georgia Eva (Gilbert) Bates died at approximately 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, 2017. She was 98.

Georgia was born Dec. 26, 1918, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the daughter of George C. and Bernice (Marvin) Gilbert.

She was a 1935 graduate of Pittsburg High School, and worked as a secretary and bookkeeper until the mid-1980s

She was united in marriage with Max W. Bates in 1938. He preceded her in death on June. 30, 1998.

Her hobbies included her family and her numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She was a member of First Baptist Church, of Columbus, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by daughters Gia R. Bates, and Gay Lynn (Bates) Morgan.

She is survived by son-in-law Bob Morgan, of Columbus, Kansas; granddaughter Valerie (Morgan) Richardson and husband Patrick, of Columbus, Kansas; grandson Todd Morgan and wife Jennifer, of Columbus, Kansas; grandson Brent Morgan and wife Vesta, of Olathe, Kansas; granddaughter Natalie (Morgan) Simmons and husband Rodney, of Oakley, California; nine great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 11, 2017 at Derfelt Chapel in Columbus, Kansas. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2017 at the funeral home, the Rev. Clarence Newman officiating, with graveside services to follow in Park Cemetery in Columbus, Kansas.

Pallbearers will be Garrett Newman, Dylan Newman, Christopher Smith, Brent Morgan, Hayden Morgan and Quinnlyn Morgan. Honorary pallbearers are Jordan Morgan, Isiah Fulcher and Todd Morgan.

Memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.
