JQH Arena to host Top 35 bull riders in the world Sept. 8-10

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) top 35 bull riders in the world will return for the ninth consecutive year to buck once again in Springfield, Missouri, for the PFIWestern.com Invitational, presented by Bass Pro Shops. Taking place at Missouri State University’s JQH Arena, this will be the fourth stop on the second half of the Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS), and one of seven remaining events for riders to gain much-needed points toward the world standings to qualify for the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals (Nov. 1-5) in Las Vegas.

Springfield is one of the most popular stops on PBR’s premier tour. Fans will be treated to electrifying, heart-stopping action where the toughest athletes in the world will take on the rankest bulls around as they vie for the event title.

The event begins at 7:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, and continues at 6:45 p.m. Sept. 9. Championship Sunday will begin at 4:45 p.m. on Sept. 10. Tickets for the three-day event can be purchased at JQH Arena Box Office, PFI Western Store, Missouri State Tix or by calling (417) 836-7678 or PFI Western Store at (417) 889-2668. Prices range from $15 to $110.

As part of the home stretch to the World Finals, competition at the PBR’s elite level will be intense. Approximately 1,500 points separate the Top 10 bull riders in the world. Ten bull riders have won BFTS events this season, including Eduardo Aparecido, the current No. 1 man in the world, who has been the top rider since late February.

Last year, fans at JQH Arena saw 2016 World Finals Event Winner Ryan Dirteater win the event amidst tough competition. Dirteater will look to defend his title against some of the sports best. Among that group is Missouri-native Mason Lowe, young guns Derek Kolbaba and Jess Lockwood, 2008 World Champion Guilherme Marchi, who notched his historic 600th qualified ride this season and was featured on the cover of Men's Fitness as the world's most fit athlete and many more.

The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network – the home of the PBR and networks around the world. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.
