JOPLIN, Mo. - Cherokee County's very own Sheriff David Groves was named the "Stand with the Shield" Law Enforcement Officer of the Week by Classic Hits 93.9. Announced on Aug. 20, Sheriff Groves won the recognition based on anonymous nominations.
Sheriff Groves has been in law enforcement for 17 years and is serving his ninth year as Cherokee County Sheriff. Classic Hits 93.9 reported that those who nominated Groves said he works diligently to keep the community safe and is committed to the citizens of Cherokee County. Sheriff Groves told the station that one of the most significant events in his career involved the quick recovery efforts of everyone following the tornado that hit Baxter Springs in April 2014, and that he is humbled and proud to be a part of such a great department, with many men and women that he feels are more deserving than himself of this nomination.
"Stand with the Shield" is sponsored by Zimmer Radio, Inc., Newstalk KZRG, KIX 102.5, Big Dog 97.9, Kissin 92.5, Classic Hits 93.9, and AM 1230 The Talker.
