BAXTER SPRINGS - The Lady Lions started their volleyball season losing three games at Cherokee-Southeast, to Erie and Southeast in two sets, and Riverton in three. Next came two more loses at Girard. Baxter Springs lost to Girard in two sets, and took Erie to three sets.
The Lady Lions next played at home against Fort Scott in a best of five matches. Fort Scott took the first two matches both 25-16. The Lady Lions came back to win the next two matches 25-18. In the rubber match fifth game the Lady Tigers took the match 15-9.
Last Saturday the Lady Lions played a quad tournament in Pittsburg, at St. Mary’s-Colgan. In two sets Baxter Springs defeated Girard, lost to Colgan in three sets, and Liberal Missouri, in two.
With three wins this young season, Coach Alayna Von Moss said of her Lady Lions: "We had a great season last year, but we lost five seniors and a lot of leadership that left some opening spots. We only have a few players with a lot varsity experience. We are trying different things, and we are learning about ourselves. The good news is that we learning every game. The girls are learning it won’t come as easy as it did last year. We are going to rise to the occasion, but it just is going to take some time."
