James Lorenzo Dow Brewster, better known as "Jim," of Baxter Springs, Kan. passed from this life at the age of 75 on Monday, September 18, 2017 at his home with his family at his side.

Jim was born December 14, 1941, at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, Mo. to the union of Frank L. and Katherine G. (Fields) Brewster. Jim was united in marriage to Betty Colleen (Leckner) Brewster on July 2, 1982 in Parsons, Kan.

Jim was a lifetime resident of Baxter Springs. Throughout his life he farmed, raised cattle, and was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He was a member of the Baxter Springs Co-Op and enjoyed hunting, gardening and loved to travel.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Michael William Brewster. Survivors include his wife Betty of the home; two sons, John David Brewster and wife Tracy of Granby, Mo., and James Frank Brewster and wife Carla of Granby; one step-son Randy Cravens and wife Tammy of Granby; two brothers, Daniel L. Brewster of Joplin, and David F. Brewster and wife Judy of Baxter Springs. Three grandchildren, James J. Brewster, Sam Brewster, and Anthony Brewster; two step-grandchildren, Trinity Cravens and Haille Cravens; along with three great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, September 22, 2017 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, Kan. Pastor Claude Craig will officiate. Burial of ashes will follow at the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Jim has been entrusted to Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel for cremation. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com."
