BAXTER SPRINGS - The Lady Lions volleyball squad had a busy schedule the last couple weeks. Starting with a tournament with larger enrollment schools held in Pittsburg on Saturday, Sept. 16. They lost games to Carl Junction 25-16 25-17, Nevada 25-18 25-15, Carl Junction 25-16 25-16, and Pittsburg 25-19 25-20. Baxter Springs did manage a set win against Frontenac 26-24, but lost the match 25-20 25-20.
On Tuesday, Sept. 19, they entered a tri-angular meet in Galena. They lost the opening match to St. Mary’s-Colgan, of Pittsburg, 25-16 25-13. Against Galena the Lady Lions jumped out leading 7-1, and finished the set 25-10. Baxter Springs started with a 15-1 advantage in the second set, and won the deciding set 25-10 for two wins.
Thursday, Sept. 21, at home they downed Galena in two sets, and had hard fought victories 25-23 27-25 against Chetopa.
Again at home in a quad meet this Tuesday, the Lady Lions again faced Galena. With a seven point beginning run, Baxter Springs led 12-3. With Gracie Qualls serving for the Lady Bulldogs, Galena came back down only 12-10. Soon Galena tied the set at 13. Baxter Springs came back up 15-14. With Bridgett Dewey serving, the Lady Lions went up 21-14. A smash by Delaney Barnes put them at 22. Dalainey Anderson served out for the 25-15 win.
The Lady Bulldogs stayed close in the second set with Baxter Springs 7-7. Ryleigh Sills for the Lady Lions went on a 10 point serving tear putting her team up 17-7, and Baxter Springs went on to win 25-15.
Against Oswego, Baxter Springs won the first set 25-20, lost the second 25-22, and completed the winning set 25-21. With their third opponent of the evening they had a hard fought battle with Liberal, Missouri. Liberal took they first set 25-19. Having to win by two, the second set went back and forth until Liberal pulled out the win 29-27.
