BAXTER SPRINGS - One American Bank employee found out it can pay to be generous. Janet Lazenby won a vacation day by bringing in the largest contribution for the American Bank food drive, but the real winners are those who the food Pantry helps with the donations.

Lazenby said it was her mother who had been the spirit behind her large contribution to the food drive. Her mother has passed, and she said doing so was a tribute to her.

American Bank exceeded their food drive goal by 250 items. They had initially set a goal of 750 items, but just over 1,000 food donations came in for the Ministerial Alliance Shop and Food Pantry. Berniece Moss, Shop Manager, was on hand for the results, which were announced at the bank on Oct. 4.

"American Bank has been awesome," said a tearful Moss.

She said it was a bittersweet moment for her, as she soon will be leaving the area. Moss said she is moving to Texas to be with her family.
