BAXTER SPRINGS - Potential issues with the 5th Street widening project have been avoided, according to County Commissioner Cory Moates. Moates reported this update to the Baxter Springs City Council at their Oct. 10 meeting.

"We met with engineers on 5th street project and have redesigned the project as of Monday (Oct. 9) so the utilities will not have to be moved," Commissioner Moates said. "We're looking at trying to keep the right-of-way where it's at, and not extend it so that we'll leave all the utilities in place and get this job wrapped up."

He said they were also going to look at putting in a storm drain system.
