Veteran’s Day run will raise money for Animal Hospital

BAXTER SPRINGS - A few weeks ago, the Mother Road Marathon made its return to Route 66. On Veteran’s Day, another foot race will be welcomed to Baxter Springs, and this time it is to benefit a local animal hospital.

The 'See Spot Run' will be held on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11. The proceeds from the race will go directly to an Emergency Pet Care Fund with the Baxter Springs Animal Hospital, designed to help pet owners with emergency surgeries and other needed services who normally would not be able to provide this service for their pets. The race will be hosted by C.J. Foods, Inc, a pet food manufacturing company in Baxter Springs.

The race will include a 1-Mile Fun Run, a 5K Mutt Strut, and a 9K for Canines, and will start at 100 N. Youngman in Baxter Springs, from the C.J. Foods Inc parking lot, and make its way through town and back.

As the event is also pet friendly, there will be a Pet Parade and awards will be given for “Best Dressed”, “Pet/Owner Look-Alike” and others. Medals will be given to all runners in all events, and T-shirts are given to all 5K and 9K particpants. 1-Mile runners also can purchase a shirt for $10, that goes directly to the charity.

As the event lands on Veteran’s Day, the 'See Spot Run' will be a very patriotic event as well. All current military and veterans will receive $5 off of any event. Early bird registration and the deadline to guarantee you receive a shirt before supplies run out is Nov. 1.
