First monthly walk set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Mercy Hospital Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. – What better way to start your weekend than making strides to help your heart and improve your health?

You have that chance at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, and the first Saturday monthly thereafter at 'Walk with a Doc', powered by Mercy. Join a Mercy doctor for a five-minute health topic and a 30- to 40-minute walk along Mercy Hospital Joplin's beautiful walking path at 100 Mercy Way. Participants can walk at their own pace.

Mercy is the Joplin-area sponsor of Walk with a Doc, a national program that encourages healthy physical activity in people of all ages and seeks to reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle to improve health and well-being across the country.

“Walk with a Doc is a program for everyone interested in taking steps for a healthier lifestyle, which is why Mercy is proud to sponsor this monthly event,” said Dr. Tracy Godfrey, president of Mercy Clinic Joplin. “Walking is low impact and easier on joints than running. It's safe, with a doctor's OK, for people with orthopedic problems, heart conditions and weight issues.”

Sign up for the free event at mercy.net/WalkWithADoc. Meet at the butterfly statue garden near the hospital entrance.

Participants will receive a T-shirt or a pedometer (while supplies last) and a bottle of water by visiting the cafeteria cashier on the second floor.
