BAXTER SPRINGS - The Chamber of Commerce met Monday, Nov. 6, for their monthly meeting which included discussion of the upcoming Veterans Day Celebrations and Christmas Parade.

Veterans Day, Nov. 11, will be a busy day in Baxter. The Legion will be serving breakfast. See Spot Run Parade presented by CJ Foods begins at 8:30 a.m. This is a pet parade and costume contest with a one mile family fun run/walk or 5k option. It will lead into the Veterans Day Parade at 11 a.m. The parade will be followed by a Memorial Service at the Baxter Springs Veterans Memorial. There will also be a free lunch at the Legion with food being provided by Quaker Hill Manor. Later that evening there is a dance and dinner at the Legion.

The Baxter Springs Veterans Memorial is “really coming together,” according to past President Charlene Hunley. There are still 118 bricks available for dedication. The Christmas Parade is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Dec. 2. In order to participate you will need to fill out a form available from the Chamber. The line forms at 1:30 p.m. at 16th and Military. This year’s theme is “Down Home Country Christmas.”

The Chamber of Commerce would like to give a big thank you to Wayne and Sandy Cook along with Phyllis Abbott and the Dream Team for decorating Main Street this fall. The Chamber is working on nominations for their Executive Board. Volunteers are welcome. If you are interested in serving on the Chamber Executive Board contact past President Charlene Hunley at charhunley@gmail.com or current President Debbie Hopkins at quaker.outreach@americareusa.net by Friday, Nov. 10.
