Bonnie Ruth (Dyson) Mathews, 82, of Baxter Springs, Kan. passed peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Quaker Hill Nursing Home.
Bonnie was born February 2, 1935 in Peoria, Okla. the daughter of Ed and Pauline (Bryant) Dyson. She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and had lived in the tri state area most of her life graduating from Picher High School in 1953.
Bonnie is survived by two daughters, Vicki Mathews Hopkins and Linda Mathews Lake; three grandchildren, five great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two sisters, Helen Dyson Hodge and Janie Fowler Moore.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Vada Faye Mathews, and Pamela Jean Mathews; three brothers, Marvin, Tom, and Sid Dyson; one sister, Kathy Dyson; one son-in-law, Charles Hopkins.
Bonnie loved her family, friends, and enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. In her younger days she played softball and roller skated with her grandchildren until she was over 50.
During her work career she wore many hats including becoming the first female uniformed officer on the Miami, Okla. police force in 1974 where she worked as a foot patroller. Bonnie will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, November 10, 2017 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Burial of ashes will follow at the G.A.R. Cemetery, Miami, Okla.
