BAXTER SPRINGS - Johnston Public Library has announced that the elevator has been repaired and it is now under a maintenance contract. The elevator electrical and computerized equipment was damaged by flooding in November and December, 2015.

Although the building was insured, it was not covered by flood insurance. The cost to repair was given as $36,000. A fundraising campaign that began in February, 2016, a USDA rural development grant, and the library's capital development fund paid for the repairs.

"We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the fundraising campaign," Library Director Betty Burrows commented. "We are happy to be able to offer this service to the people of Baxter Springs."
