BAXTER SPRINGS - A phone scam has been targeting Baxter residents recently. According to a press release issued on Nov. 28, by the Baxter Springs Police Department, a company that is identifying itself as the "Baxter Detention Facility" is making calls to area citizens, and requesting bond money on Walmart Gift Cards.
"We have contacted the phone number associated with the complaint, and while it appears to sound legitimate, it is actually a scam," stated the press release.
The Baxter Springs Police Department said there is no such detention facility in the city. If residents are contacted by the scammers, do not release any information or send any money, and immediately notify local law enforcement with the number they called from.
