Sheldon L. “Shel” Taylor, age 78 of Baxter Springs, passed from this life on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Freeman Hospital after a short illness.

Shel was born on Feb. 7, 1939, in rural Columbus, to Glenda (Riley) and Walter Taylor.

Shel is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Edith Fleming, and Thelma Puckett; brothers, Wyatt, Raymond, and William Taylor.

Shel is survived by his wife, Zelda (Smith) Taylor of the home; sisters, Shirley Mogle (Jim) and Leah Brassart (John); brother, Richard Taylor; children, Carla Jordan (Steve), Brian Taylor (Wren), Mike Harner, Janice Kuehn, and Sharon Clark (Bill); 12 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Shel was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and KU basketball fan. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and spending time with grandkids and great grandkids.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 15, 2017 at Bethlehem Cemetery, rural Columbus. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, Dec. 14, from 4 to 7 p.m., at The Ritz Theater in Baxter Springs.
