COLUMBUS – Joel Cypert, of Columbus, has a strategy for buying scratch tickets. He’ll go to the Kansas Lottery website, find tickets that have the most remaining top prizes on them, and those are the ones he buys. His research paid off this week when he won the $27,777 top prize on the $5 7 Series ticket!
"I bought $20 in tickets, but I only bought one of the 7 Series tickets," Cypert said. "I like to play more than one game at a time. I took the tickets home and scratched all of them at the kitchen table. I was sitting there with my wife and my mother, and when I scratched off the winning ticket, I couldn’t believe it!"
Cypert says he was so excited, he can’t even remember what happened next.
"I basically passed out for a second! Everyone else was so energetic and loud, but I’m just sitting there at the table processing it. I still don’t remember what anyone said right after we scratched it off."
After regaining his composure, Cypert went back to the store where he bought the ticket to check it. The clerk was so excited about the big winner that they called the owner, who talked with Cypert on the phone.
"He thanked me for shopping at his store, and congratulated me for the win. He was just as excited as I was.," Cypert said.
Cypert and his wife said they plan on using the winnings toward getting a home, and maybe will use some to get a new car.
The winning ticket was sold at Fast Mart on 300 West Maple Street in Columbus. There is still one $27,777 top prize left in the $5 7 Series game.
Players are invited to submit all their winning and non-winning tickets in the Kansas Lottery PlayOn® Players Loyalty program to earn points for drawing entries and a chance to win cash and other prizes.
