GALENA - A suspect sought in the May 25, 2016, armed robbery of the Galena Pizza Hut has been extradited back to Kansas to face charges.
Shawn Michael Orr, 31, was checked into the Cherokee County Jail on Wednesday, Jan. 17. He is suspected of entering the Galena Pizza Hut on May 25, 2016, pointing a handgun at employees, stealing an undisclosed amount of money and then fleeing on a motorcycle.
According to Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves, Orr is currently a prisoner of the Missouri Department of Corrections.
"We extradited him back to Kansas to answer the criminal allegations against him," said Sheriff Groves. "He has been charged with Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault and Theft."
According to the Galena Police Department, at approximately 5:35 p.m. on May 25, 2016, a man in a full face black motorcycle helmet walked into the Pizza Hut on East 7th in Galena, pointed a hand gun at employees and demanded all money from the cash registers. The subject was also wearing a gray hooded-sweatshirt with a white Superman emblem on the front and a pair of jeans. The employee complied with his demands, and the subject exited the store with an undisclosed amount of money and head East on 7th Street on a motorcycle.
Following the robbery, the Galena Police Department and local law enforcement agencies disseminated surveillance footage of the suspect and the motorcycle he fled the scene on to traditional and social media outlets. As a result, several tips were received leading the Galena Police Department to contact and coordinate their efforts with investigators from the Joplin, Missouri, Police Department.
On the evening of May 27, 2016, Joplin Polices officers located and took the suspect into custody. Once in custody, Galena officers questioned the suspect, who confessed to committing the Pizza Hut robbery. Officers were also able to retrieve the gun used during the crime.
