JOPLIN, Mo. - Despite missing a few lifters due to illness, the Baxter Springs High School Powerlifting team took first place overall at their first meet of the season. Held at McAuley High School in Joplin on Jan. 20, this was the first chance for the Lions to show off their prowess.
Coach Charles Rector had nothing but praise for the squad.
"It was a fantastic first meet for them," he said. "They did great even though the entire team was not able to attend because of illness and other obligations."
The Lions took first place overall in team points, and had several top-five individual placers.
First place finishers were: Peyton Herrenbruck, Whitney Holstrom, Abi Kerr, Kayla Baldwin, Emilee Craig, Lindi Schmelzer, Blythe Ipock, Kenny Herrenbruck, Narciso Ortiz, Riley Bailey, Michael Dardenne, Gage Piper, Lane Hall, Garrett Gayoso, Brayden Barnard.
Other top finishers were: Bridgette Dewey 2nd, Cailey Woznick 3rd, Olivia Roller 4th, Libby Thomasson 2nd, Autumn Holstrom 3rd, Remington Robison 5th, Kenlee Bottorf 6th, Tristian Bush 2nd, Caleb Burks 2nd, Spencer Barnard 2nd, Tyrae Skye 2nd, Jose Leon 2nd, Haden Woodcock 3rd, Jade Weston 4th, Dravyn Bush 4th, Dakota Hartman 3rd, Nicolas Smith 2nd, Dasan Deringer 4th.
