BAXTER SPRINGS - In their first game last week on Monday, the Lions jumped out in front of the Commerce, Oklahoma, Tigers 16-14 in the first quarter; then 37-24 at the half. The Lions finished the game at 69-41.

In the first period junior Trey White scored nine points, including a trey. Junior Blake Thiessen added a 3-pointer, and senior Preston Landis added four. For Commerce, Danny Salinas knocked down two beyond the arc.

White went wild in the second quarter with four more 3-pointers for 14 points of his game’s total of 31. Salinas added another trey for the Tigers. The Lions led 37-24 at the half.

Baxter Springs added 20 more points in the third to lead 57-34. Landis had seven points in the quarter, senior Brant Trease had five, and Thiessen shot another 3-pointer. Landis finished the game with 15 points. Max Sheffer added four points, and Trease eight.

Baxter Springs 72 - Bronaugh 22

Against the Bronaugh Wildcats, when they traveled to the Missouri town, the Lions started with a 25-1 first quarter advantage. White in the opening period drained three 3-pointers for a total of 13. Landis had six points, and Sheffer four.

The Lions led 47 to 15 at the half. White added six more points in the second, then sat the bench. Landis added three points in the second, and five in the third for 14 points for the game. Sheffer finished with eifght points, and Thiessen 11. Freshman Kain McCulley contributed five points.

St.Mary’s Colgan 70 - Baxter Springs 44

Baxter Springs fell to 11-4 for the season after their winter homecoming loss on Friday to the now 14-1 Panthers. With a full court press against them, and a strong defense, the Lions were down 33-18 at the half. Colgan led 53-29 to go into the final period.

Colgan’s Coach Wayne Cichon with the victory now has 599 wins for his career. Five Panthers were in double figures with Jacob Dellasega leading his team with 15 points with three 3-pointers.

Sheffer led the Lions with 16 points, and eight rebounds. White chipped in 10 points.

The Lions will be on the road for their next two games. This Friday they will be in Riverton. Next Tuesday they go into the Doghouse in Galena.
