Good Morning,

The Miss Columbus Committee is happy to announce that nine young ladies signed up for the Miss Columbus program, so there will be a Miss Columbus pageant in 2018. We will be meeting with the girls and their parents shortly and go over the program, so everyone will know what is expected.

I know you don't want to think 4th of July, but...

We have had several ask about returning to class B fireworks - those are the ones we had to shoot from the ball field that go much higher and cost $10,000 for the 15 or 20 minutes. We have been using class C, which we shoot from in front of the hedgerow at the fairgrounds, do not go as high, they have been running $7,500 for the 15 or 20 minutes. We have just barley been bringing in $7,500 to cover that cost. The only way to do the higher is to bring in more funding from the public donations - if we don't have it, we can't do it. We have booked Riverside Fireworks for the 4th to do our fireworks, we do have to send in a deposit now, and tell them which type you want. Would you like to tell us what you think?

The first fireworks cookout will be March 15, with Mercy Hospital doing the grilling. The other three months it will be the second Thursday.

Mayor Spieth, Larry Hiatt, Columbus News Report, and myself went to Topeka last week, as the Senate recognized the City of Columbus with a resolution #1766 for it's 150th anniversary. The Governor will be doing a proclamation to the city on March 23.

Don't forget to RSVP for the "Cyber Security/counterfeit" workshop by this Friday, Feb. 16. The workshop will be next Wednesday, Feb. 21, noon at the community building. Light lunch will be served. There is no fee for Chamber members; $10 for non-members. This is hosted by the retail committee.

This week:

Wednesday, February 14 Board meeting, noon at community building. Members are encouraged to attend, give input. We do ask that you advise if attending, in order to have enough lunch on hand.

Thursday, February 15 Easter Egg Hunt committee meets at noon. Easter comes early this year, so the children's hunt will be March 31 at the city park. If you would like to help with this or be a sponsor of a bike, let the office know or attend the meeting.

Monday, February 19 President Day, Chamber office will be closed

Wednesday, February 21 Cyber security/counterfeit workshop, noon at community building. RSVP by this Friday

Thursday, February 22 Columbus Day meeting, noon. This event takes lots of volunteer to pull it off. New ideas are always Welcome. Vendor application have gone out to past participants, invitations have gone out to hot air balloon pilots and we are in the process of asking for sponsors for the balloon regatta, car show and children's festival. If you would like to sponsor, let the office know.

Friday, February 26 Blood Drive at community building.

Have a good week,

Jean
