Lawrence Clifford Long, Jr., of Baxter Springs, Kan. passed from this life on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at his home with family by his side.
Lawrence also known as “Cliff” was born on March 19, 1944 in Picher, Okla. to the union of Lawrence Clifford, Sr. and Ethel Mae Long. Lawrence had lived in the 4-State area most of his life. Cliff married Carolyn Sue Freeman they later divorced.
He then joined the U.S. Army and served from 1969–1972 in Germany. While in the Army he earned his GED. After returning from serving he later married Michele Sue Rodgers on February 9, 1973 in Galena, Kan. She preceded him in death on March 10, 2015. Additional family members that preceded Cliff in death are his parents, three brothers Charles, Steven and Virgil Long.
Cliff was a machinist and a computer programmer. He owned and operated Well pump/water softener company for several years, he had worked for Roots manufacture for five years, Hawk Engineering in Galena, Kan. for ten years where he then retired in the year 2000.
Cliff enjoyed working on computers, mechanic work, woodworking and most of all he loved Hot Rods and attending car shows, and he loved his family more than anything.
He will be sadly missed by his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by Michael Long of the home, David and wife Kim of Baxter Springs, Kan. Jim Long and wife Susie, Rod Long and wife Missy, Tammy Brooks and husband Shane, and Lawrence C. Long, Jr. all of Columbus. Cliff had 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. A sister, Barbara Simpson of Muskogee, Okla., and a brother James Long address unknown.
Lawrence has been entrusted to Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel for cremation. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the home. Family and friends may stop by from 2 to 4 p.m.
