BAXTER SPRINGS - There’s much to write about in the first softball game against Girard held on Lady Lion's home diamond. The Lady Trojans won 16-2 in five innings. Baxter Springs had six hits, with two coming from Kennedy Krokroskia and Ryleigh Sills.

The Lady Lions highlight was a 2-RBI line drive homerun by freshman Allie Fry in the opening inning, scoring Krokroskia who was on with a walk. Fry also had a bunt single in the third inning. Girard scored eight runs in the first inning, two in the second, and six in the fifth.

Baxter Springs played a closer second game, but came up short 7-2. Girard went 1-2-3 in the first inning, and the Lady Lions led 1-0 after the first. Krokroskia led off with a base hit, and scored on Anderson’s single.

The Lady Trojans brought six runs across in the second when the first two batters reached on errors. They then had four base hits, a walk, then another base hit.

Baxter Springs had their second and last run in the fourth. Fry started the inning with another leftfield solo homerun. Baxter Springs pitcher Hanna Horn, and the Lady Lions defense, shut down Girard in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Girard only batted 11 batters in the three innings. Their seventh run came in the sixth inning.

Baxter Springs left the bases loaded in their sixth inning. Anderson led off with an infield hit, and Kortney Sills and Underhill each had base hits.

In the two games the Lady Lions only received two base on balls, both by Krokroskia. They weren’t allowed to steal a base in either game. After starting the season 4-0, they are now 5-5.
