Harold Delmer Barnes, age 86, of Miami passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Freeman Health System in Joplin, Mo. Delmer was born June 17, 1931 in Kiowa County, Kan. to Marion Ashley Barnes and Monneta Raymond Barnes Brown.

After graduating from Miami High School in 1950, he enlisted in the Army where he was a corporal in the Signal Corp. After serving his country he went to work at B.F. Goodrich Plant in 1953 until its closure in 1986. After the plant closed he worked for T.W. Recreational Services at Zion National Park for seven years and North Rim of Grand Canyon for one year. Returning to Miami in 1993, he went to school in Austin, Texas to learn the art of making and repairing golf clubs. He enjoyed this hobby until his illness no longer allowed his hands to do this.

In 1953 after returning to Miami he met the girl he would spend the rest of his life with. He and Susie Cobb would get married August 20, 1954. They would have celebrated their sixty-four years together in August. In this marriage they had two children. A daughter A. Renee O’Dell of Blue Eye, Missouri. A son Kenneth D. Barnes of Owasso, Okla.

In his lifetime he enjoyed R.V. ing, Golfing and driving cars for the various car dealers. He enjoyed his family get together and many friends. He also was a great cook. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for sixty-three years. Harold was preceded in passing by his parents and a step-dad, Joe E. Brown, a brother Bill Barnes and a sister Patricia Williams.

Surviving family is his wife, daughter, son and his wife Meredith and brother Don and his wife Judy of Evansville, Ind. Also two nephews and their families.

His request was to be cremated and have private family services. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite Charity.
