As you will recall, last November the voters of the City of Weir voted to return to a city of the third class. As a result of that change, the City of Weir will no longer be voting by wards. The City of Weir will be voting At-Large beginning with the Aug. 7, primary election.

This change will affect the Republican and Democratic parties as they elect precinct committee persons on Aug. 7, as well. Previously, each of the three wards of Weir elected a committeeman and a committeewoman for each of the two parties for a total of 12 persons to be elected.

Beginning in August there will only be one committeeman and one committeewoman for each of the two parties for a total of four (4) to be elected.

The registered voters in the city limits of Weir will be receiving a postcard from the Cherokee County Election Office to notify them of the change. The postcard will no longer contain ward designations but will simply say “Weir City”. No action is required by the voter, this is simply a notice of the change.

Any questions should be directed to Rodney Edmondson, the Cherokee County Election Officer at 620-429-2042.
