Be sure and plan on attending the May Fire up for Fireworks cookout on Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of the Community building. Farmers Co-op will be our grill master. We only have this and next months cookout to come up with $5,000 to get the class B fireworks that everyone wanted, so please come out and make that happen.

The 4th of July committee has met and have games planned out for the 4th beginning at 5 p.m. on E. Country Rd. between City Park and American Legion Fairgrounds. Farm Bureau Insurance will be hosting their 5K Fun Run on the 4th beginning at 7 a.m. (registration begins at 6 a.m.) in from of the American Legion. You can pre-register with Denise or Fawna at Farm Bureau Insurance. The committee would like to have some sponsors for these games - Tug of War, Egg Toss, Bottle Fill Race, and Hot Dog eating contest for kids. Thanks to Empire District-Liberty Utilities for doing the washer tournament, Kiss Tech for Turtle Races and Commerce Bank for the Water Balloon Toss. All you would need to do is provide some prizes for the game (nothing big, most use their logo stuff for additional advertising), you can help run the game, but the Miss Columbus girls will also be available to do that.

Make sure to attend the Chamber coffee Tuesday, May 15, at the Farm Store from 8 to 9 a.m. Drop your business card in for the drawing for $25 Columbus Gift Certificate. Catch up on what our member businesses are doing.

Registrations are coming in daily for the All School Reunion, over two hundred alumni have registered. An updated schedule is on the Chamber Facebook page. Membership is also available for the 150 Club for the city celebration, there are many perks for this, including dinner on June 22, and special seating for the opening of the time capsule that was buried 50 years ago when the city celebrated their 100th. Funds from this will be used for the city celebration activities.

The Columbus Day Festival is still in need of someone to do the Children's Corner and something to fill the street where the inflatables were, as we can not find another company to that. Remember, two or three people on the committee can not handle all of this, it takes several to pull this large event off.
