Jana Lynn Bowin, 40, of Miami, Okla. passed from this life on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Mo. After fulfilling her duty as a child of God here on earth, she gained her sparkly wings and halo and went home to her eternal resting place.

Jana was born on December 26, 1977 in Joplin Mo. She was raised by her mother, Deanna Ruth (Myers) Todhunter and Richard Todhunter.

Jana graduated from Baxter Springs High School in 1996. After graduation she earned her EMT Certification and started working at St. John’s Regional Medical Center. She also worked for Dr. Coy in Carthage, Mo. for a period of time and Dr. Gomez in Pittsburg, Kan. Later she worked for Freeman Hospital Health Essentials in Joplin, Mo. until a car accident in 2001 that left her handicapped. She then was a stay at home mom following the accident. The last few years she was a contributing writer for Boomstick Comics. Recently she had just begun to tutor in the literacy program at the public library in Miami, Okla.

Jana loved life and everything it offered. She always called herself a PROFAN Girl. She had witty, quirky and bubbly personality and she brought laughter and love to so many. Among the love she had for her family, she had a love for sparkles, glitter and crafts like no other. Some of her favorite things included comics, wrestling, fishing, music, movies and an obsession with My Little Ponies that lasted forever. As her daughter, Corinthian, says, “She was spunkalicious”.

Jana is survived by the love of her life, her husband Chris Bowin of the home; children who meant the world to her, Corinthian AKA Barbara Jean, Quinn AKA Quinnie the Pooh, Baylian Kal-El AKA Superman and her best buddy, her Maltese, Duke Ellington AKA Duke. Her mother Deanna Todhunter of Baxter Springs, Kan.; sister, Tamara Davolt (Eric) of Riverton, Kan.; three nieces’ who she loved dearly, Karley, Sami, and Krissy.

Jana is preceded in death by her father, Richard Todhunter; brother, Tony Justin Weaver; grandparents, Dale and Georgianna Myers.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Pastor’s Shane Dotson and Jim Bowles will officiate the services. Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2018 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Friends may call upon the family at the home of Deanna.
