Steve Watkins, U.S. Army veteran, engineer, and Republican candidate for Kansas’s 2nd Congressional District, today issued the following statement after federal Judge Julie Robinson struck down a state voter I.D. law that requires proof of citizenship in order to register to vote.

"This is just the latest example of unelected judges replacing their wisdom for that of voters,” said Steve Watkins. “There is nothing controversial about requiring United States citizens to show identification when they register to vote; it protects American citizen's right to free and fair elections. Instead of mocking or playing politics with the integrity of our electoral process -- the judiciary should be protecting it.

In Congress, I'll fight to ensure that the sanctity of the electoral process is protected, even if unelected judges refuse to."
