Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt issued the following statement in connection with the recent announcement by Justice Anthony Kennedy that he will step down as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court:

“Justice Kennedy’s long and distinguished legal career has contributed significantly to shaping modern American history. On a personal level, arguing before him has been a highlight of my service as attorney general. With Justice Kennedy’s retirement, the last of Ronald Reagan’s appointees to the Supreme Court will be gone, but the legacy of President Reagan’s fidelity to constitutionally conservative jurisprudence lives on. With important issues pending before the Court, including some from Kansas, I trust that legacy will be reflected in President Trump’s nominee.”
