FRANKLIN - On Sunday, July 15, the Miners Hall Museum's Quarterly Exhibit program “Moving a Behemoth” will be presented by John Chambers, a member of the Heart of the Heartlands Train Club. Chambers will talk about moving the Kansas City Southern Engine 1023 from Pittsburg’s Schlanger Park to the Heart of the Heartlands Railroad Museum at Carona. Chambers will also show a video of the move and describe the process it took to get to that point. Join us as we learn how a house mover was able to move a steam locomotive.
Following the program, we welcome you to visit the new third Quarterly Exhibit, “Railroads - Backbone of the Mining Industry,” hosted by Heart of the Heartlands.
Please let us know if you plan to attend by calling (620) 347-4220. Our doors open at 1:30 p.m., and the program begins at 2 p.m. The program is free to the public. Donations are appreciated.
The Quarterly Exhibit is open for viewing at Miners Hall Museum, 701 S. Broadway, Franklin, Kansas, July 2 through Sept. 27. The museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
