Good morning,

I believe the Girl Scouts could use some help this week at the Scout House.

The City Celebration is asking for items from our businesses to place in the time capsule that will be buried during the Columbus Day Festival to be opened in 2068. If you have something you would like to place in it drop it by the Chamber office by the end of August. Anything with your company name on it.

The Columbus Day committee is still in need of someone or group to take on the Children's Corner. If you need brochures in your business, stop by and pick some up. They have gone out to VIC's in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri, and I have gotten some out around town, but not everywhere. We are beginning to get calls now on it. All food vendors spot are taken, but we still have craft and commercial space available.

Don't forget to register for vendor space for the Ag EXPO on Sept. 20, if you work with the agriculture industry in any way. Several workshops of interest to both the general public and to agriculture people, have been scheduled through out the day.

This week:

Thursday, July 26 Columbus Day Committee meets, noon

Tuesday, July 31 Agriculture committee meets, noon

Wednesday, August 1 City celebration meets, noon

Thanks to Medicalodge for hosting the July 3rd Thursday coffee last week. Our crowd was down and no one won the $25 in Columbus gift certificates, so for the Aug. 16 coffee at Maple UnCommon Guest House & Gallery, the gift certificate drawing will increase to $50 in Columbus gift certificates.

We are now accepting nominations for the Chris Award to be presented during the Miss Columbus pageant. No formal form, just send a letter advising what your nominee has done for the community in the way of volunteering, promoting the community. Those need to be turned in by Sept. 17.

If you have children or grand kids between the ages of three and five, register them to participate in the Little Mr. & Miss Columbus. We have to have at least two boys and two girls to do this activity. The winner is based on how much funds he/she brings in from the selling of the raffle tickets. The winner receives a motorized vehicle and all receive a trophy and gift bag. If the child turns in over $1,000 and is not the winner, they will receive an additional cash prize. They need to be registered by Aug. 28.

Enjoy the fair, it is suppose to be cooler,

Jean
