BAXTER SPRINGS - As the dog days of summer creep upon us, and with school right around the corner that can mean only one thing in Baxter Springs: Rodeo time.
This past weekend was full of action with Baxter Springs Saddle Club URA/ACRA/MRCA Rodeo taking place.
Sami O'Day won the Breakaway Roping at 2.5. Jesse Boos and Brooke Gray both came in at 2.6; with Danni Clover (2.9), Cutter Weil (3.0), and Kim Spurgin (3.0) rounding out the top six.
Victory in Team Roping went to Coy Rahlamn and Jake Pianalto at 4.0. Eric Flurry and Stitches Stanley came in second at 4.4. Following them was the teams of Terry Crow and Chad Evans (5.1), David Kenyon and Nathan Enyart (5.2), and Wade Perry and Brandon Vaske (5.9).
Chase Gabriel took the top two spots in Saddle Bronc at 70 and 61. Austin Stratman won Bareback at 69, with Dillion young just beind at 67. Bull Riding saw Ty Birky in the top spot, followed by Tyler Bunton, Jared Byer, Austin Dorsey, and John Harris. Steer Wrestling went to Connor Gentry, coming in 4.6. Dillion Schivi finished second with 20.0.
Calf Roping was won by Tom Crouse with a 9.5. Reed Boos finished in a narrow second at 9.6. Shane Wesley (10.0), Clay Brown (10.7), and William Wayne finished out the top five spots.
Cayla Small took victory in Barrel Racing, finishing at 16.756. The remarkably competitive field say Genny Joe Kijac finish in second at 16.769, Taylor Johnson at 16.859, Jessica Beck at 16.896, Emma Charleston at 16.930, and Missy Bennet at 16.963.
