Hope you all had a good week end.

The agriculture committee was planning on "Feeding the Farmers" this week, but with the rain forecast for all week, it may have to be pushed back. Everything is ready, except getting the buns, so we should be able to move pretty quickly when we get to do it.

Ribbon cutting was held last week for "Lucky T's Bait and Tackle" on the highway 160 as you go toward Crestline. All types of fishing bait and supplies. Drop by and register, he is giving away several items for your fishing pleasure.

Columbus Day/Hot Air Balloon Regatta, we are still in need of one sponsor for a balloon, the pilot is not new, has been here several times. Could use three or four persons to crew also. Still in need of someone to handle the Children's Corner. Working on getting packets out to all pilots, sponsors, crew and host families. Putting gift packets together for pilots, if you want to put something in them, drop by the Chamber office, we have 13 to fill.

Miss Columbus worked committee worked with the girls over the week end with a swimming party and helped with their resumes. Down to six candidates. The girls have done a great job of helping with Chamber activities this year. Thanks to all of them.

The Commissioner of Education, Dr. Randy Watson, will be in Columbus on Wednesday, Aug. 29. He will be meeting with local business leaders at 1 p.m. at Crossland Construction Company in their meeting room to discuss changes in education and to gather feedback from local business leaders. We would like Chamber members to come and welcome Dr. Watson to Columbus.

Don't forget to nominate a community leader for the 2018 Chris Award. There is not a formal nomination form, the committee asks that you just write a letter stating why the person deserves the award and what they have done in the community in service and promotion. The need to be in the office by Sept. 10.

Have had one little boy sign up for the Little Mr. & Miss Columbus contest. We need at least two boys and two girls to do this. The kids need to be signed up by Aug. 27. Ages between three and five years, and in USD 493 district.

First day of school for the fall semester is this Wednesday, Aug. 15, so be careful on your way to work and watch for kids.

3rd Thursday coffee is this Thursday, Aug. 16, at Maple UnCommon Guest House & Gallery. 8 to 9 a.m., the gift certificate drawing is up to $50 in Columbus gift certificates. Drop by on your way to work and catch up on what is going on.

The School Carnival will be Aug. 23 in City Park from 5 to 7 p.m. Many of you have participated in the past with a fun booth of some sort for the kids. If you wish to participate let Mr. Jamison know at Park School.

Big Brutus Polka Fest is Saturday, Aug. 25.
