Paul Leroy Fanning, 84 of Baxter Springs, Kan. passed from this life on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Quaker Hill Skilled Nursing Facility surrounded by his family.

Paul was born April 29, 1934 in Peoria, Okla. to the union of Orville M. and Mae Pearl (Carver) Fanning. Paul worked as a machinist for the former McCartney’s Manufacturing Company for 29 years, retiring in 1993. Paul was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Baxter Springs, where he served as Deacon. Paul was proud of his heritage, being a part of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma. Paul was an avid golfer and always enjoyed the comradery at the Baxter Springs Country Club. Paul’s hobbies include, hunting, building homes, visiting the area restaurants and spending time with his family.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harold Fanning, Carl W. Fanning, and Don Fanning; four sisters, Rose Gale, Coleen Martin, Helen Price, and Mildred Madison.

Paul is survived by one son, Kevin Fanning and wife Connie of Baxter Springs, Kan.; daughter, Sherri Creed and Dale Whitehill of Joplin, Mo.; brother, Kenny Fanning of Omaha, Neb.; two special nieces, Connie Smith and Deb Jones; four grandchildren, Josh Fanning, Nathan Creed, Micah Creed, and Jake Fanning; three great grandchildren, Lilly Weaver, Brady Weaver, and Piper Creed.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Pastor Daniel Berryhill will officiate. Paul has been entrusted to Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel for cremation. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
