A Pittsburg bakery is helping local kids with cancer by donating proceeds from cupcake sales this week.

Celebrations by Lori has teamed up with CancerCare for the 6th annual Cupcakes for a Cause Campaign.  And the sweetest thing of all. The proceeds from the sales of the smiley-faced cupcakes will be donated to the program.

“The sad fact is that everyone knows a family that has been affected by cancer.  This is just one way we can help area families who are struggling with this disease,” Lori Horton, owner of Celebrations by Lori, said.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

CancerCare is a national non-profit organization founded in 1944 that provides free professional support services to anyone affected by cancer: people with cancer, caregivers, children, loved ones, and the bereaved. Children and teens affected by cancer have special needs and concerns.

CancerCare for Kids offers practical support, education and advice to parents, and counseling to children and teens to help them understand cancer. All services are provided by professional oncology social workers and are completely free of charge.

There are more than 200 bakeries in the country participating in the program this week, including Celebrations by Lori.  The Pittsburg bakery is one of two in the state of Kansas teaming up with CancerCare.

Cupcakes will be available in several flavors and decorated with the smiley-face icon of the CancerCare Kids program. All proceeds from cupcake sales at Celebrations by Lori during this week are donated to the program. They will be available every day for walk-in sales or for larger quantities (two dozen or more) 24 hour notice is appreciated.
