LazyRayz tanning salon has moved and is offering services in their new building.

Dr. Rob and Lori Herron, owners of LazyRayz, moved the business into their new building on 213 West Maple.

“We outgrew the old building faster than we ever could have imagined,” Sam Atkinson, manager, said.

The old location was next to Herron’s dentist’s office and LazyRayz was moved into the new building on January 6.

She said the Herrons decided to open a tanning salon in Columbus because there were no other tanning salons in town at the time.

“When we first started we bought the hydromassage bed and the spray tanning because those were services not offered in Columbus,” she said. “People would have to drive to Joplin to get those types of services.”

LazyRayz currently offers UV tanning, spray tanning, hydromassage and nail services. Atkinson also said there are many different packages available for purchase at the salon.

Atkinson said she does the nails at the salon among other jobs. She said she always wanted to do nails. She said she went to Fort Scott Community College Cosmetology school in Pittsburg and has been doing nails since January.

Atkinson says the hydromassage bed uses 25 gallons of distilled water to run and uses the water pressure to perform the massage. She said customers can buy a package which offers 15 minute sessions and gives the customer a six-digit password for the bed. She said it allows the bed to keep track of how many sessions the person has used in their package and will greet them by name when the password is put in. Atkinson said the bed also has games and music on the screen if the person is unable to just relax in the bed.

She said the spray tanning booth was bought in Nashville, and although there have been worries the spray tanning would turn people orange, there have not been any complaints yet. She said the formula has been changed so that it contains less DHA so people are no longer being turned orange. She also said it is a custom air brush spray tan, meaning she sprays the tan on by hand, leaving less room for error.

LazyRayz also carries purses, watches, sunglasses and Eye Kandy, a glitter eye liner which is very popular.

Hours for LazyRayz are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m to 8 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
